‘Welcome Back’
The first in a series of Reunions planned in the run up to the School’s
Centenary in 2013 was held in School on 12 October 2009. Pupils and staff who
where involved with Froebelian up to 1959 were invited to come back into School
and renew old acquaintances and thirty-four of you did just that. We were
particularly pleased to welcome four ex-pupils who attended Froebelian in the
late 1920’s and 1930s:

Victor Watson
and his wife, Sheila, who were both
pupils until 1938. At that time Mrs. Watson was Sheila Bryan.
Vivien Jennings,
(who came back with her daughter, Jennifer Hawke,) attended the school from 1926
to 1930 and Jennifer was herself a pupil in the 1950s.
Maryon (Mollie) Dougill
who left in 1932 and who has, along with former Teacher, Marjorie Anderson,
been of invaluable help in identifying faces on old photographs.
Unfortunately, Eileen Williams, Christopher Wells, Nina Robson, Muriel Stanley,
Betty Scarlett, Paul and Shirley Rogers, who also left in the 1930s, were unable
to attend, but sent their good wishes.
Four pupils from the 1940s attended but, understandably, the largest number of
ex-pupils at the gathering left in the 1950s.
We had managed to track down two former Froebelian Teachers of the 1950s - Miss
Marjorie Anderson and Mrs. Jeane Macpherson and they were both very pleased to
meet up with some of their former pupils. Ms. Juliet Williams, daughter of Mr.
& Mrs. Williams – joint Principals of the school in the ‘60s and 70s’ - also
joined us for the occasion.
Our visitors were able to view photographs of the period 1913 to 1960 and had
the opportunity to look around the School as it is today. They were entertained
by the School Choir and enjoyed afternoon tea before going their separate ways.
Following on from the success of this Reunion, the next gathering – for pupils
who left between 1960 and 1969 (and staff who were at the school at the time) –
is planned to take place on Monday, 8th March 2010.
