Sport
Sport is an important part of
the curriculum at Froebelian and we provide a wide range of sports and outdoor
activities. In addition to traditional team games including football, netball,
cricket and rounders the older children (aged 7+) swim throughout the year and
are involved in tennis, athletics and cross country running.
There are regular inter-house
fixtures in school and a full programme of fixtures with other schools (see
separate details). A wide range of activities are offered as
extra-curricular activities and the children in Years 5 & 6 have opportunities
for outdoor pursuits, such as the annual 'Three Peaks Challenge', climbing at
the Leeds Wall and an 'Adventure residential' in the Lake District
Several members have staff
have qualifications and experience in sport including the Headmaster who has run
marathons, Mr Saunders who holds mountain leadership qualifications and Mrs
Algar and Miss Stanworth who have played netball at senior level. Deputy Head
Teacher, Mrs Staniland was honoured with the award of 'Sports Teacher of the
Year' in 2003 by the National Council for School Sport in recognition of her
outstanding contribution to PE and games.
