Froebelian Pupils Have Tea With The Lord Mayor
Children from the Froebelian School in Horsforth were recently invited for tea with The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Graham Latty.
The Year 6 children enjoyed tea and cakes in The Ark Royal Room at The Civic Hall followed by a fascinating tour by Sergeant-at-Mace, Mark Lenton, taking in the Council Chamber, East and West Rooms and the Reception Hall, where they learnt all about life as a Councillor and the history of the Council and the Civic Hall.
Leeds’ 125thLord Mayor, Cllr Graham Latty said: “I am delighted that the staff and pupils of Froebelian enjoyed their visit to our Civic Hall. They enjoyed tea, coffee, juice and buns in the Ark Royal Room before seeing the Council Chamber where they learned all about its history and how a council meeting works from the Sergeant-at-Mace . They really were a pleasure to entertain, well-mannered and with an obvious thirst for information.”
Headteacher of Froebelian, Mrs Catherine Dodds added: “We were delighted to be invited by Lord Mayor, Graham Latty to join him for tea. The children enjoyed having the opportunity to spend time at the Civic Hall and ask The Lord Mayor questions. Each and every child had prepared questions to ask and they learned a great deal about how the Council operates and the democratic processes in place.”
As one child said: “What an amazing day!”
