We know who to ask for help if we are worried about change

At this time of year, there is a sense of anticipation in the air as our thoughts turn to new beginnings in September. FIV feel this more acutely than most as they leave behind everything which has been comfortable and familiar during the most formative years of their lives. Being able to talk about the emotions this evokes is so important and our work in PSHEE provides a perfect vehicle for the children to realise they are not alone in their worries. The children in FIV are preparing for their Leavers’ Assembly next week and we always try to balance the worries and sadness of leaving school, friends and staff with the joy and excitement of exploring a new school, making new friends and impressing new teachers. You know I like a good quote (!) and two spring to mind at this time of year: ‘How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard’ – Winnie the Pooh, and ‘Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened’ – Dr. Seuss. Wise words indeed.
