We know how to help ourselves and others when feeling upset or hurt

Our ethos theme next week is: ‘We know how to help ourselves and others when feeling upset or hurt.’ This is another example of how we teach the children to develop their personal resilience as well as their capacity to empathise with their peers. Although it is every teacher and parent’s intention and wish that every child is happy at home and at school every day, we all know children can become easily upset from something as simple as not being given their preferred cereal for breakfast or being told to have a bath! Whilst as adults, these upsets can seem trivial and frustrating to manage, it is important that we listen attentively, acknowledge the upset and empathise with how it makes the child feel. In turn, this approach helps to teach the children by example, how they can support their friends who are hurt or upset. I saw this quote a few years ago and it really struck a chord with me
