Sport is an important and integral part of the curriculum and life at Froebelian.

Our ethos aligns with The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) definition of the three Olympic values.
Excellence – someone doing the best they can, in sport and in life.
Taking part and striving for improvement, not just winning.
Friendship – using sport to develop tolerance and understanding between all people

Led by Director of Sport and former Great British Pentathlete, Liz McGurk, we are delighted to partner with exceptional local sporting venues including Leeds Trinity University and Yarnbury Rugby Club to provide first class sporting facilities for both our core curriculum and extra-curricular sporting calendar.

We have specialist coaches in netball, football and rugby, which combined with the specialist PE training and distinguished sporting records of our existing staff allows us to provide the highest quality coaching and opportunities to all our children.

We ensure all children have opportunities to develop their skills in a range of sports.

Our new specialist sport coaches join the Juniors for their Games afternoons throughout the year. With experience which spans the Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 age ranges, these dedicated sports specialists work with The Froebelian Family to deliver high-quality, skills-focused Games sessions in netball, rugby and football  where the children build a range of transferable skills alongside learning rules, techniques and tactics to develop their competitive game play.

Mrs McGurk ensures that the fixtures calendar  enables all children to have opportunities to represent Froebelian in both competitive and friendly matches and festivals.

Football & Rugby

Our U9 and U11 football and rugby sessions are run at purpose-built off-site facilities.

In rugby, we partner with Yarnbury RFC in Horsforth, throughout the Autumn & Spring Terms and football practice is held at a local pitch.

Netball

Netball – Our U9 and U11 netball teams will be coached by experienced members of the Froebelian Staff Team.

We are extremely proud of each and every pupil and their sportsmanship, focus and determination
