Sport is an important and integral part of the curriculum and life at Froebelian.

As one of the leading independent preparatory schools in the North, we know that our many co-educational sporting opportunities and achievements help complement our outstanding academic success.

We understand that children instinctively enjoy sport and we know that it is vital that young children exercise regularly in an inclusive and safe environment.  Froebelian is passionate about the health and wellness of our children and enjoy finding unique ways to make physical activity fun and enjoyable.

Former Great British Pentathlete, Liz McGurk joined The Froebelian Family as PE and Games Lead Teacher this term.  Read more about her experience here.

We partner with Leeds Trinity University and Yarnbury Rugby Club to provide first class sporting facilities for both our core curriculum and extra-curricular sports provision. Swimming is held at Aireborough leisure centre and our annual Sports Days take place at Beckett’s Park Campus Headingley and Horsforth Hall Park. Specialist coaches in netball, football and rugby, which combined with the specialist PE training and distinguished sporting records of our existing staff, allow us to provide the highest quality coaching and opportunities to all our children.

Junior Games
Inclusive Games lessons give all children  the opportunity to develop skills in a range of sports. We have secured additional sports specialists who join the Junior children for Games afternoons throughout the year. With experience which spans the Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 age ranges, these dedicated sports specialists work alongside Mrs McGurk to deliver high-quality, skills-focused lessons in netball, cricket, athletics, rugby and football. The children learn transferable skills alongside rules, techniques and tactics to develop their competitive game play.
Mrs McGurk coordinates our busy fixtures calendar to ensure that all children have opportunities to represent Froebelian in both competitive and friendly matches and festivals. The sports specialists assist in running teams for fixtures and in delivering our after-school sports clubs.

Our U9 and U11 football and rugby sessions are run at purpose built off-site facilities at Yarnbury RFC in Horsforth, throughout the Autumn & Spring Terms and is delivered by our specialist rugby coach.
